subject: Gold As An Investment [print this page]

Are you looking to buy some gold? The mystical beauty and intrigue of gold makes it a classic desire for many people around the world. If you are looking to invest in something, maybe it is time to consider investing in gold. Gold is a great investment because it is a physical object. You can touch it, you can look at it, and you can have a physical, visual confirmation that you have a solid source of money invested in that gold. Another great thing about gold as an investment is that it is very liquid. If an investment is liquid, that means it can be bought and sold fluidly, or easily. If the day comes that you need to sell some of your gold for cash in your pocket, you do not need to worry about not being able to sell it. Liquidity is a crucial factor when you are considering investing your money.

Now with gold, there are a few different forms that you can buy. These different forms do, in fact, differ slightly in their liquidity, so you might want to do your research before you invest. Gold bullion, simply defined, is a refined and stamped weight of precious metal. This could mean anything from gold bricks to gold coins. Even within this category there are differences. With gold bullion, you will be able to sell gold coins a lot easier than you will be able to sell gold bricks. Though you may fantasize about opening up a safe with perfectly stacked gold bricks, why not change that fantasy to a sea of gold coins? That is the more liquid choice. Also, gold bars can be more easily tampered with and may not be pure gold.

Another option for an investment in gold is jewelry. This is not the best option for several reasons. First of all, if you buy it as jewelry, say perhaps, a wedding ring, you are unlikely to ever want to give it up. Second, gold is an extremely soft metal. Pure gold would make terrible jewelry. Because of this, gold jewelry has other metals in it that make it hard and durable. If you take your ring to a gold refiner, they will only pay you for the percentage of our jewelry that is actually gold, even though the other metals in there are also of value.

Gold is a great investment. Just do your research before you get stars in your eyes and are blinded by the beauty of the gold.
