subject: Updating A Kitchen With New Window Treatments [print this page] When my sister and her husband recently bought their first house, I was excited to help her with all of the decorating and updating. They bought a small, two bedroom ranch-style home with an unfinished basement. They will have many years of remodeling ahead of them. She decided to start with the kitchen because that is where she spends most of her time.
A bright and cheery space, it didn't need much work to get it up-to-date. First, she changed all the cabinet hardware, making the cabinets appear brand-new. Then, she needed my help with the window treatments.
The kitchen has three different types of windows to cover. It has an above-the-sink window, a sliding glass patio door, and finally a large picture window in the dining area.
Her color palette is earthy tones of gray, slate, and brown. We decided to use dark brown and flashes of burgundy as accents. With so many available options for Indianapolis blinds, we struggled with what would be the best look for her kitchen and dining areas. Roman shades, wood blinds, cordless blinds, drapes, valances, oh my! Even with the Internet at our fingertips, blinds Indianapolis were hard to choose.
After much debate and second guessing, we finally decided on cordless blinds in a rich honey shade, complemented by a floral valance above the sink. We matched the blinds and valance with the picture window and went with a heavier, chocolate drape to cover the sliding glass doors. We will paint the walls a nice shade of gray to pull it all together for a warm, inviting kitchen and dining area. After all that work we decided to save our shutters Indianapolis shopping for next season!
