subject: Golfers Are Not Sorry For Being Different [print this page]

Golfers are an obsessive, passionate and unique type of person but we love them all. One of the not so good habits of most of us who play golf is that we often take it too seriously.

However, it does not bother us at all.

We may be a bad golfer but we will not say sorry for that.

One of the our most popular television programs is The Weather Channel and are constantly watching it our checking out their website to find out what the conditions will be like when we play our next round.

We check out the 10-day forecast and plan our golfing outings with our friends on the dry days. We are proud of our hobby and the sport of golf is reflected in the vehicles we drive, the clothes we wear and the presents we get and receive at birthday and Christmas time.

We love to receive golfing equipment as a gift and want to show it off hoping that the rest of the world will grab a bit of our passion.

When we are looking to get a cable package of course we do not sign up unless The Golf Channel is available in it. If it is not, we go and look elsewhere.

In fact, they could charge whatever they like for it, we would willingly pay it.

So our weekend routine is to get up early get out on the course to get 18 golf holes under our belt, then off home to watch whatever tournament may be on the golf TV that Saturday or Sunday.

Waiting for the Masters, the first major golf tournament of the year, is so exciting. It just doesn't seem to come quickly enough.

All the conversation in the 19th hole (the most popular of all) varies from the newest driver from Callaway or whether we should have taken a 5 iron or 6 iron at the fourteenth.

I often feel sorry for golfing widows for many reasons, one being the havoc that the tees cause when we leave them in our pockets and they get fed into the washing machine.

We know the idiosyncrasies of every professional golfer like the length John Daly can drive and Freddie Couples swing through when chipping. We can tell you what year Arnold Palmer won his first major at Augusta in 1958. We know that Tiger Woods started being taught golf by his father when he was only 9 months old.

Golf is a way of life for us whether we are playing it, watching it or simply thinking about it. That is golfers.
