subject: Air Conditioning Promotes Good Health [print this page]

Imagine the hottest day in SummerImagine the hottest day in Summer. It's sticky and bright, humidity so high you can feel the sweat droplets running down your back. You're at work or studying, constantly becoming more and more uncomfortable until the arrival of that magic hour when the day ends. You drive, walk or catch the bus home, all in the sweltering heat and finally you're at your front door. You open it and one of two things can happen. First, you realise your home, having been locked down all day in the unbearable warmth has become a sauna. There's no respite for you here, nowhere you can turn to but a cold shower and even after that the heat is still there. You dread the evening. Or, conversely, you can turn the handle and walk in to your home, mild and refreshing. You're instantly calming down, dropping the stresses of the day as your body soaks up the cooling, fresh air from your air conditioning unit. You feel in good health; you're ready to face the evening.

A modern life provides us with more than enough stress, and yet the natural world will continue to do its thing, providing us with brutal weather whether we like it or not. It may seem to some that an air conditioning unit is an arbitrary expense, some luxury that we don't need. After all, what did we do before it was invented. Well if so, then why stress about your work, isn't that all arbitrary too?

Keeping yourself mentally and physically well requires balance in today's hectic lifestyle. An air conditioning unit is part of your home and provides an added level of sanctuary. Arriving home after a busy day still leaves a thousand and one chores to be done. Cooking dinner, doing the dishes, helping the kids with their homework (or doing your own homework): why shouldn't you provide a calming environment for your family. Yet it's not just calming down after a day's hard work, your family's success and health are affected too.

Trying to sleep in a humid, damp room is next to impossible, regardless of how tired you are or how important tomorrow is. It almost doesn't need to be said that there is a direct correlation between comfortable sleeping and concentration. The success of you and your family relies heavily on those moments of rest that can be gathered at home. Why not make those moments as comfortable as possible?

A steady stream of frustration, often exacerbated by difficult weather, leads to a negative outlook and even depression in severe cases. A comfortable home life will lead to a more well-adjusted person. Children will be able to concentrate on their homework, parents won't dread the heat of the stove or oven as they're cooking dinner, the mood of the household will improve overall and sleeping, for everyone, will be restful and fulfilling.

Access to clean, fresh air and a comfortable sanctuary from the world is almost on par with healthy eating and regular physical exercise for overall optimum health of you and your family.
