Start by picking the right colors. Of course red, black and white come to mind. But truly, you can have fun with this one! Spice it up with some feather boas on each of the table's chair backs. Or perhaps have them at the front door while guests are walking in so that it can be a keepsake from the evening. Even your male guests will have fun with this one! A great touch would be to hire a few Moulin Rouge dancers and have them greeting the guests as they enter. They could be the ones to hand them the boas and get a quick picture before they walk through the door. Something you could post on a site for all to see after the event!
There should of course be some French music playing - either live or a CD. A great soundtrack is the Moulin Rouge movie soundtrack itself. Or the ever wonderful, Edith Piaf. Either way, it sets the mood! Champagne is a must at a Moulin Rouge party. It's the old French standard to wet the palate. And there might even be some roaming French magicians and artists.
The Moulin Rouge dancers you hired to hand out boas earlier can of course entertain the guests at a few points throughout the evening with a great can-can dance routine. There's nothing like having the can-can dancers do their kicks, splits and hoots throughout their performance to dazzle your guests!
Perhaps at one point in the evening - maybe once the Champagne bottles are almost empty - you can have a can can kicking contest, led by the can can dancers, with your guests as the participants. It's always a great memory when the audience members participate on stage. It makes for fun water cooler talk on Monday. And the pictures this will generate won't be too shabby either!
All in all, this is one of my favorite themes. I always enjoy a great Moulin Rouge musical dance performance and all of the flavors of the age-old French Cabaret! You can't beat the energy and laughs it will bring to your guests. Great for any corporate event and special party! You, of course, won't get as wild as they did at that famous opera house near Montmartre back in the day....But you and your guests will still have fun and enjoy the splendor of it all. It was, after all a happy, happy time!
