The whisper grain mill had a unique historyThe whisper grain mill had a unique history. Many of the major, and minor, retailers of grain mills carried this machine for one reason. It was considered the best. It did an excellent job. End of story. However, as any good reporter will tell you the story never ends, it continues. This is not a sordid tale of murder, sex and romance. There was disappointment in the home milling community, and dissatisfaction with the soon to be on the marketplace repacked replacement. I am not here to be judgmental about the Wonder Mill. Reviews are available to read and make your own conclusions. It can be noted the now consistently recommended grain mill of same caliber is the Nutrimill. I will endeavor to share what I believe the strong points of the Nutrimill to consider are in this kind of purchase.

Ease of Use: One the frustrating operation aspects of a whisper mill were stopping with grain in the mill. This was a major problem for the whisper. The instructions given with the mill was to always run out the grain in the mill. If grain is left in the mill it would plug it and result in a factory warranty repair. However, that is not a possibility now because Whisper is gone. The Nutrimill, on the other hand, can be started, stopped and started again without any problem.

Grinding of Grain: The whisper mill had a limited range in wheat grinding. First let's understand that both mills are impact mills. They will not make cracked grain. This is the grind normally used in cooked cereals. However, the range of grind with the Nutrimill is wider than the Whisper mill. The coarse texture of medium meal is the least grind to the other end of very fine for pastry flour. The Nutrimill is the bread bakers dream come true, fresh flour in an instant.

Capacity of Flour Bin: While this is not crucial to the operation of either mill, it becomes a matter of convenience. The Nutrimill home grain mill has a capacity of twenty cups of flour while the whisper had a limit of twelve. Then again if you bake multiple loaves of bread at a time then a larger volume of ground flour is an advantage.
