subject: Brainpop Educational Website For Kids [print this page]

Students today need the internet for many reasons. Granted some of those reasons are purely superficial. They want to stay connected with their friends through social networking sites such as Facebook or MySpace. You, as the parent or educator, want them to use the internet for more constructive reasons, such as learning new information or advancing their skills. It can be difficult to find a good balance between a fun website and one that is practical and will teach kids the things they need to know in order to progress. One website does find the balance. You definitely need to check out BrainPOP.

BrainPOP has so much to offer anyone of any age. But it is specifically targeted towards middle school children and early teens. There is one designed for children in Kindergarten through third grade but this original site is for those a bit older. But what does it really offer and is it worth the price of the membership?

Brain POP offers the categories of Science, Arts & Music, Math, English and Social Studies. It also has a section entirely devoted to Technology. But it does get better. Even though each of those categories can really help your child learn, it also has a Spotlight feature. The Spotlight varies from month to month so the topics will vary. This means that the site is constantly being updated.

But the website also offers something for educators. This can be the teacher in the traditional school setting or it can be for those that elect to home school their children. The website offers parents and teachers the opportunity to manage their lesson plans and also lets them know what their particular state standards are and how to achieve those standards.

As for the cost of a membership to BrainPOP, that varies. You have several subscription choices based on your particular needs. As a parent you may want to choose the Family subscription, Home School or Virtual School subscription. Professional educators may elect to purchase a District subscription or a Classroom subscription. With so much versatility you can choose exactly what you want. That is a great option and one that makes checking out this program definitely worthwhile.
