subject: Consider this before you Purchase the New Nokia Symbian E7 [print this page]

Nokia has chosen to spread its technological wings a little further by launching not one, but three new phone models one of which is the Symbian E7. Now while the name Symbian itself is not new to the Nokia market, the E7 style is, and of the three new smartphones being released, this particular one is meant to be Nokia's current crown jewel. The reason for this is it's being marketed and awaited as the ultimate in business smartphones.

So what is it about the Symbian E7 that makes it that (hopefully) enviable to the public? This phone boasts a faintly larger screen compared to its C6 and C7 brethrenapparently this makes it more suitable for business ventures, says Nokia. But besides the screen size that is a whole fraction of an inch longer, this little device sports some other attractive features, such as:

- Slide-out full QWERTY keyboard

- Improved visibility a la Nokia ClearBlack

- 8 MP camera with dual led flash, 720p video capabilities, and face detection

- 16GB storage, 256 MB RAM, 1 GB ROM, up to 350 MB user

- Scratch-resistant display touch screen

- Dolby Surround Sound and DivX playback

- HDMI support

- Runs on the latest Symbian^3 OS, which allows for broad customization

- GPS capacities with maps, navigation and voice guides

- Quadband, WiFi, and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity

- Long battery life: 9 hours of talking time, 18 days of stand-by

- 2D and 3D graphics acceleration

- Several sensors, such as proximity, compass, ambient light, and accelerometer

- Comes in five colors: Blue, Green, Silver, Orange, and Dark Grey

The worst thing about this bad boy, though, is the price tag. It will retail in London at 495, but when you convert the Euro to the U.S. dollar, you're looking at something that will set you back about $644. Over six hundred bucks for a thing that's less than five inches tall that your dog could easily eat. This design is said to share several qualities of the Nokia N8, but the Symbian E7 is quite frankly only very slightly larger than the N8 (as in the N8 is 0.50" thick, whereas the E7 is 0.53" thick). SymbianWorld.com describes this smartphone as having a "robust and new slim design," which makes no sense because something can't be robust and slimunless they mean the technological abilities the phone presents are robust, while the shape and weight of the actual device is slim.

Basically, if Nokia were Sports Illustrated, the Symbian E7 would be the swimsuit issue. Nokia's Symbian E7 will hit store shelves, along with the C6 and C7, before the end of this year. So if that four-inch anti-scratch screen and 18-day battery life are totally calling out your name, start saving your pennies or making out your Christmas list early.
