subject: Using Resistance Bands [print this page]

Exercise bands, sometimes called resistance bands, are one of the best ways to sculpt and tone your body. And the best part is these bands will fit in a purse or a briefcase and can go anywhere. You no longer have an excuse for not getting to the gym. Now you can take the gym right along with you.

Strength bands are something that has become popular in recent years. I was introduced to them about 4 years ago as part of an exercise program developed by a large university. I think one of the reasons they used them is so there would not be any excuses about not being able to make it to the gym.

Exercise bands are pieces of elastic that you pull on. It is the resistance in these bands that provides your muscles with the workout. The bands come in different strengths. Beginners should start with the bands with the lightest tension and work your way up to stronger bands.

According to the experts, a workout using bands is every bit as good as a workout on professional machines found in the gym. Some professional athletes have turned to strength bands for the strength training workouts.

The nice thing about resistance bands is they are very easy to use in your home and they can be purchase for less than $20. These bands can be purchased almost anywhere. I have even seen them at Barnes and Noble.

In today's fast paced society, convenience seems to be the in thing and resistance bands certainly meet this criterion. If you are looking for an exercise program that is convenient, resistance bands and the exercise ball make a great combination. There are a huge number of exercises that can be performed with these pieces of equipment. If you are looking for cost effectiveness and convenience, the bands and the ball are definitely the way to go.
