subject: Dancing With The Stars: Week 1 Worst Performances [print this page] Week 1 of Dancing with the Stars had some surprising performances "" some surprisingly bad performances that is!There were several celebrities who struggled with the challenges of the show. Here"s a recap of the four performances that ranked as worst for this past week of Dancing with the Stars.
Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino and Karina Smirnoff "" Cha Cha Cha
This couple was put into a difficult position right from the beginning. The Situation is a member of the cast of the MTV program "Jersey Shore" and didn"t finish filming for the current season until five days before the season 11 premier.Karina tried her best working with The Situation given the limited amount of time available to her. They danced a Cha Cha Cha to the song "Break Your Heart" by Taio Cruz. The judges all sympathized with the fact that he was under trained and under rehearsed but said they couldn"t take that into consideration when judging his performance. All they could go on was what he did on the dance floor Monday evening. The three judges said they saw a spark or some potential in him, but challenged him to take the competition seriously and work hard. They tied for last on the judges" leader board, scoring 15 out of 30.
David Hasselhoff and Kym Johnson "" Cha Cha Cha
Where to even begin with the commentary on this performance?Perhaps David"s age and bad knees really did affect the quality of the performance, but they don"t excuse the trashy, sleazy 1980"s era costumes or the funny faces he made during the dance to "Sex Bomb" by Tom Jones. There were even pyrotechnics and flashes of light to add to the impact of the performance but only made it seem more cheesy. The judges were not happy at all with the performance, calling it bizarre and a potpourri of madness.Head Judge Len Goodman told David that it was never too early to panic. They tied for last on the judges" leader board, scoring 15 out of 30.
Margaret Cho and Louis Van Amstel "" Viennese Waltz
The beginning of Margaret and Louis" Viennese Waltz to Queen"s "We are the Champions" was actually pretty good. They took on the serious tone and respectful nature of the dance. And then the comedienne emerged from hiding and the rest of the dance was filled with slapstick comedy and other gimmicks. It just seemed like a really crazy risk to take the first night of competition. Not everyone knows her as a comedienne and some people might have been turned off by this type of routine. The judges were not happy at all with the choices made for this performance. The judges thought that she does have the ability to dance and thought that she pushed it too far with this performance. They tied for last on the judges" leader board, scoring 15 out of 30.
Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower "" Viennese Waltz
Michael and Chelsie seemed to work well together as a couple, even though Michael"s extensive tour schedule might have made it difficult for them to put in long hours of practice. They danced to the song "Life After You" by Daughtry, and this is the reason Michael was picked as Chris Daughtry"s favorite celebrity during the results show Tuesday night. The judges thought he was too tight and didn"t relax enough and also didn"t lead the dance as the man should. They finished the night in 9th place, scoring 16 out of 30.
In the end David Hasselhoff was eliminated from the show, so the other three celebrities have some work ahead of them if they want to climb out of the judges" bad graces.Week 2 of the show will feature the Quickstep and the Jive, and it should be interesting to see The Situation do the Quickstep while Margaret and Michael do the Jive.
