So you want to increase your punching power so you can knock your opponent out? There are a few things that you must keep in mind when training. One critical factor and probably the most important is technique. You should worry about the proper footing and keeping your balance in all the training you do. Because in order to increase your punching power you must also improve your whole body. The power comes from the ground up and improving your balance and technique will help you build a solid foundation on which to build.

Hitting the heavy bag

A heavy bag is probably the most effective way to increase your punching power. If you are looking to develop your punching power for the cage or the ring, then you will want to pound on bags heavier than 75 pounds. if you're just starting out on the heavy bag I recommend going lighter and working your way up. This prevents you from straining your wrists (or jamming it really bad). This also allows you to concentrate on your technique and that is important especially in the beginning. Here are a few reminders while working on the heavy bag or sparring.

Always stay balanced. I know I keep saying this but it is very important because losing your balance in a fight can cost you dearly. As you are sparring pay strict attention to your balance. As you're working on the heavy bag be conscious of your footing. Do these things to help your balance as it will surely help your punching power develop.

Be relaxed while you're sparring, you do not want to tense your muscles too much because you can risk injury and slow you down.

Do not lock your elbows when throwing a punch. This means that you should not fully extend your arm when you throw a punch. This is a common problem for beginners and should be avoided. If you lock your elbows upon impact you will not only have robbed yourself of punching power, but you also can't get your hand back to the guard position as quickly.

Try different combinations and avoid throwing just one punch or one kick. This will not only help you increase your punching power but also learn body mechanics. It will also help you develop proper balance so that you can deliver the perfect punch.

Having a good diet can also help you increase your punching power. Because if your body gets the proper fuel, than it can deliver the power you expect out of your punches.

And of course having the perfect MMA training program (this goes without saying).

Incorporating all these into your training routine will help increase your punching power. You cannot ignore any of these vital reminders if you want to be an elite fighter. I know that these are all basic knowledge however they are easily forgotten.
