subject: Vacationing In Atlanta On A Budget [print this page] Planning a vacation to Atlanta on a budget is very plausible. There are a lot of people that stray from the idea of vacationing because of the money that they think they will end up having to spend while they are on vacation.
When you are planning your vacation you should write down a list of the attractions or sites you feel that you must see. If this list is long and complex with many expensive endeavors you should find a way to whittle down the list.
As you take the time to dig deeper into your emotions and find what is really important you may be able to cross some of the items off of your list. When you have your final list you can then supplement the list with free activities.
First, you can stop by the contemporary art center in Atlanta. Every Thursday the center opens its doors to the public and allows anyone who arrives between eleven in the morning and eight at night to enjoy the artwork that is on display.
The artists that are featured in the gallery come from very diverse backgrounds. There are local artists, national artists and even international artists that have their art displayed at this art center in the heart of Georgia.
On these Thursday evenings there is also usually some type of entertainment. The center will usually either offer a lecture series, tours of the gallery, screenings or film and sometimes local artists will come to display their artwork.
If the world of art is not your cup of tea you can always stop by the Centennial Olympic Park. Not a lot of people think about visiting this historic site in Atlanta because they do not realize all of the activities that are offered.
When you are in the park on Wednesday nights you can enjoy the Wednesday wind down. From 5:30-8pm each Wednesday night throughout the whole summer local bands and performance groups provide entertainment for the evening.
If you happen to be in town on the fourth Saturday of the month you can stop by the park to enjoy a family day in the park. While you are there you will be able to experience many different activities for free that the park feels are family appropriate.
Finally, if you are in the area on either Tuesday or Thursday you can stop by for a quick musical lunch break. From 12pm-1pm you will be able to listen to R&B, jazz and reggae artists that set up and perform for the lunch hour.
Sometimes visiting the Olympic park does not sound entertaining. When you know that your vacation is not going to include any visit to this park you can always stop by the piedmont Park which is only a few miles from downtown Atlanta.
A refreshing change from the city, you can always stop by Piedmont Park. The park is one of the biggest areas of grass and trees that you will find in the city and throughout the park playgrounds and play areas for children are scattered.
While you are there you can travel throughout the park on one of the many different trails. All of the trails are friendly for walkers, joggers and you can even rent some rollerblades and spend the afternoon rollerblading through the park.
If you are going to be bringing a dog on your vacation there is also a dog park that your dog will enjoy. The enclosed area allows your dog to run free throughout the dog portion of the park and interact with other dogs.
When you are in the south for more or a historic vacation you can choose to visit the Martin Luther King Jr. Historic Site. While you are there you will be able to visit his birth home, the church that he preached in and also his final resting place.
The Visitor Center exhibition also displays the Civil Rights Walk of Fame. Understanding what these men and women did for our country can add some rich context to your vacation and also make your vacation more memorable.
While you are visiting this historic site you may be able to make the events that occurred much more personal. If you have children on vacation with you this part of the vacation may inspire or encourage them to learn more about our country's history.
The more that you plan ahead of time the easier it will be to stay within your budget on your vacation to Atlanta.
