subject: Pearly Penile Papules - 5 [print this page]

While that relieved my mind, I still find the row of bumps unsightly and can only imagine what my sexual partners must think. I decided I needed to seek pearly penile papules treatment as soon as possible. My doctor told me there was no rush, but that he could book me in his next available office slot to have them removed with a carbon dioxide laser.

Whoah! Laser? How safe is it to be wielding a laser down there, I wondered. My doctor assured me that the procedure is relatively pain free and the post-operative recovery period is fairly short. After a little scabbing heals over, I would be back to my normal self within a couple of weeks. This was good news! I was excited to get on with the pearly penile papules treatment and get back to my old self.

After checking in with the front desk clerk, I undressed in the patient room and put one of those uncomfortable gowns on. The doctor knocked and came in with his assistant nurse. They brought a piece of equipment with them that I assumed must be the laser. After setting up, I was told to lay back on the table and the doctor used a topical local anesthetic to numb the head of my penis. I don't remember much after that because I didn't really feel anything. Later, the head of my penis was carefully wrapped in gauze and I was given a prescription for mild painkillers.

Back at home, I inspected the doctor's work. Within a week there were small scabs along the row where the papules used to be and really not much else. I found I didn't even have to take the painkillers, but it was all I could do to refrain from scratching or picking at the scabs. I wanted it to hurry up and heal already! Needless to say, I shouldn't have been so impatient. I was back to my old self after pearly penile papules treatment within a couple of short weeks. The bumps were gone and there was no trace of them to be found.

When I visited my doctor for a follow-up appointment, he warned me that I might experience a recurrence and that it was very common for men to have two or more bouts of papules before getting rid of them completely. This time around I wasn't as worried because I knew the bumps were completely benign and could not be transmitted to any sexual partner. Plus, the pearly penile papules treatment was so easy, I figured it wouldn't be a big deal if they came back and I had to do it all over again.
