subject: Fashion Jewellery Is An Ideal Low Cost Alternative To Expensive Designer Jewellery [print this page]

Making a statement is the hottest thing in fashion jewellery this year. With the weak economy, the current trends are anything but. Large, flashy jewels can be pricey and many of us cannot afford the real deal these days. Fortunately, costume pieces can easily be found for less without looking like you skimped on the price.

This year is all about bold statements in fashion, and jewellery is no exception. One of the latest fads is the bib necklace. These large, collar-like pieces make stunning accents to any look. Bib necklaces can be some of the more expensive items out there. They are made of a large array of jewels or beads, designed to lay flat against the chest and are usually very colourful, loud and ostentatious. They are often strung on a heavy chain or sometimes a pretty satin ribbon. The high price of the real thing is not the only reason to look for a fashion jewellery alternative to the designer options. They are not exactly a classic look and may not be around for the long haul. Find a low cost version to get in on the trend while it lasts.

Large bold bangle bracelets are also big this year and, thankfully, not terribly expensive. Some of the trendier bangles are thick, chunky Lucite or Bakelite pieces. These are easy to find in fashion jewellery collections and even in vintage stores. Choose bright colours and wear them stacked on top of each other or alone for a striking look. Also popular are bangles in more natural materials and subtle colours, such as hammered metals or polished wood.

Cocktail rings are another bold accessory of choice these days. Large, flashy gems and big plastic flowers are popular choices for rings. Due to their showy nature, these rings are best worn alone with no other rings and with no bracelets. They claim the spotlight all for themselves.

Finally, hair accessories are also important this year. Costume jewellery is not just for wrists, hands and necks. Headbands and glitzy barrettes have made a comeback. Satin headbands and jewel-encrusted barrettes and clips make a huge statement at very little cost. More understated is the recent trend in hair extensions. They allow for a change in hair length any day of the week.

Keep up on the latest trends this year without breaking the bank. Fashion jewellery is a great alternative to pricey designer rings, necklaces and hair accessories.
