subject: The Success Of Education [print this page]

It still remains true that learning and gaining knowledge are important to high achievement. Some groups lack quality education resources and some simply don't take advantage of those resources. Mothers who are in need of education can make a difference in their lives and the lives of their children by seeking education.

The federal scholarships for moms are a new and important way of encouraging women to earn a degree. Started by President Obama in 2009, the grants for mothers are aimed at getting working, stay at home and single mothers to get enrolled in colleges and universities. The program draws funds from the federal Pell Grant allotment and awards as much as $5,000 per person. With the $5,000 moms can pay for tuition and books or other things like travel costs or childcare. The goal is to make going to college or university much more accessible.

Diversity is an important word as it relates to the list of acceptable majors. There are very few restrictions in place that would prohibit a mother from studying what interests her. There are many careers in medicine, law and education that begin with proper education in college study. As long as youre open to the job possibilities then you can have success in the working world. Although scholarships for moms provide a place to start, for many people it is difficult to know where that education will lead them.

The internet is a great tool for many things, including job research. Here is one well-regarded place for broad research: the Occupational Outlook Handbook, or OOH. This guide by the US Department of Labor analyzes the current trends of employment in a number of sectors. Based on a ten year period, this guide also makes projections about how each sector and specific careers will develop. To find information about required education or training, salary, job projections and more, CareerOneStop is another valuable publication. Doing job searches on trusted websites and search engines can provide lots of valuable information. Doing various searches and visiting many sites can give a 'big picture' view of the areas of interest to you.

Higher education is probably even more important in troubled economic times. Preparing during slow times is an important way to ensure that needs are met when thing pick up. Strong moms deserve chances to help strengthen their families, and education is a great start.
