I have been doing SEO for 11 years now, and so I have grown up with the search engines from almost the beginning. Things have evolved from the basic ways of the engines in the 1990's, to the greatly more complex ways used by Google.

In broad terms, there are 2 areas of SEO - namely "on page" and 'off page".

On page SEO is aboutall thosethings that make upour web-page. Every web page is made up of many files and components of files. Every page has a title, a web page address, headings, text, images and graphics and many other aspects too. Each and every one of these files and components all have some form of text label or property associated with them. And we can set all of these text descriptions for all of these files and components to be something useful to us getting targeted visitors. On page SEO is totally within our own control.

Off page SEO is about all the things that search engines value which are NOT on our web pages. Most importantly, this area of SEO is about back-links from other websites to our web pages. We can and mustcreate large numbers of targeted back-links to our pages. And we can do this in ways which earn our web pages high respect in the search engines for the.keywords that bring us targeted buyers.

The important thing is keywords. We must target our pages around keywords. And search engines will deliver us visitors based on keywords.

The smart thing to do is to look at your Top 10 competitors. For each keyword/phrase important to you, you must do more towards SEO than the Top 10 competiting websites do.
