Early Life
Kalki was born on 9th January 1983 to French parents, at Pondicherry, India. Her parents came to India 40 years ago as hippies and settled here, as they fell in love with India. Kalki completed her schooling at a boarding school in Ooty. As her parents wanted her to attend university, Kalki went to London to study drama and theater at Goldsmiths, university of London. She also worked with a theater company named Theater of Relativity for 2 years whilst she was there.
Acting Career
During her drama and theater studies at London, Kalki performed in various plays like David Hare's The Blue Room, Marivaux's The Dispute and The Rise of the Wild Hunt. She had also acted in the play "Hair" directed by Ajaykrishnan.
Kalki later moved down to Mumbai to try her luck in Hindi movies. She won The Hindu metro playwright award 2009 along with Prashant Prakash for their co-authored entry 'Skeleton Woman'. Kalki also did a bunch of modeling assignments for television commercials before being picked out by Anurag Kashyap.
Her first appearance on silver screen was in Anurag Kashyap's DEV.D (2009). The film was a modern-day adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's Bengali novel Devdas. Kalki played the role Chanda, the modern day Chandramukhi. She also won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in her debut film DEV.D(2009). She also was critically applauded for her performance.
Kalki, is now equipped with many projects which include, Onir's I AM(2010), HAPPY JOUNEY(2010), Anurag Kashyap's THAT GIRL IN YELLOW BOOTS(2010), ZINDAGI MILEGI NA DOBARA(2010), and Raghav Dar's announced projects MY FRIEND PINTO.
