subject: When You Are Looking To Eliminate Waste In Your Business Follow These Steps [print this page]

When it comes to being more organized, it really starts with every employee, individually. One of the greatest forms of waste in a business or home is the lack of space. This does not mean there is not enough space, it could mean that space is misused and underutilized. All to often, a mess and unorganized work area hinders progress?

When the time is taken in search of a tool or material or anything that should be used during the job process, then the money is wasted. If the area is used to store surplus inventory, when it can be equipped with another machine and another worker to produce a real product, it is wasted. The waste can be easily identified by the person or persons working in the field and they are the easiest places to find quick and easy solutions.

Every work station should be cleaned and organized during or after each shift. Every tool and device used in the area for production or daily maintenance should have a designated place in the area. It should be labeled and used for only that tool or device. Any tools or devices that are not used or are infrequently used should be moved to a common area for access or disposed of.

What is the point of sticking to obsolete parts or tools, because it may be necessary for them one day. Maybe need a tool is not a sufficient excuse to leave worthy cluttering the desktop for years. Each time an employee must pass this tool out of the way to achieve something useful or necessary, is once again handles and it is a waste of time. He will end up costing much more expensive to have this tool useless then the cost of disposing of it. In addition, the jobs should be established for the benefit of workers in the immediate area.

If the worker has to walk back and forth several times to complete a process, then maybe the station is not configured as efficiently as it should be. Everything must be easily accessible and nothing should have to be moved in order to access another part or area. On the other hand should be put in shape the area is accessed and used by outside vendors. If you have external suppliers of population in the area, care must be taken so that they and the workers do not fall in a different way.
