Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder which is accompanied by an excessive obsession for thinness. Anorexia nervosa is an extreme fear of putting on weight and refusal of intake of food to maintain required body weight. Other than any of the eating disorders, this disease has the highest mortality rate. As this mental disorder cuts off on eating and reduces weight tremendously. It is considered as a life threatening disease.

There are various factors which lead to this disorder. One of which is a social factors such as putting lot of emphasis on physical appearance. It is proven that, genes along with environmental stressors can contribute to the development of an eating disorder. Other influential factors are family history of having an anorexic patient. Social, economical changes in life can also drive a person to this disorder. Sometimes extreme perfectionism or lower self esteem can lead to this disorder. It has a highest mortality rate of all the physical illness. This illness can cause various other physical illnesses such as cardiac disease, depression, dehydration, brain damage to name a few. Such kind of life taking illnesses can be avoided if this disorder is identified and treated at earliest. The anorexic people will often attempt to hide the effects of their disorder by withdrawing from friends and family, or by wearing baggy clothing, they actually view their self-starvation as a successful imposition of self-discipline and any weight gains as personal failures.

There are various anorexia nervosa treatment centers which aim at healing and recovering individuals from the deadly disorder by changing and reforming their cognitive behavior. Attaining mental health is one of the prime objectives of their treatments. An ideal anorexia treatment center should be able to combine the physical, spiritual, medicinal and cognitive therapies. This way a complete solution can be provided to the clients. Medicinal treatment can recover body from lost energies and required vitamins. Spiritual and cognitive therapies aim at reforming and restructuring the thought process and healing of mind. Physical activities help regaining the lost strength. This way only a well rounded approach towards healing from anorexia is required.

It is not only the women who are associated with the anorexia, but there are men also who suffer from this disorder. The factors which lead men towards this disorder are also somewhat similar to that of women.
