subject: Dont Wear Diamond Jewellery When? [print this page]

Diamonds are a girl's best friend as they say but that doesn't mean that you should wear them 24 hours a day even though you may feel by removing them you will be taking a risk. Your diamond engagement ring, diamond earrings or your diamond pendant may be very precious to you but there are circumstances where the risk of loss is far greater by keeping them on than removing them for safekeeping.

The following are but a few instances where removing your diamond rings, earrings and pendants would be of benefit to you.

1/ Cleaning is the first most important instance where your diamonds should be removed, not only for the fear of losing them but cleaning involves using cleaning products and some of these such as bleach and abrasive powders and creams can damage the polish and shine of your jewellery.

2/ The next issue is that of work which can be considered as rough. Diamonds may be the hardest material known to man but they will chip. Also the claws or prongs holding the diamonds in their place could come loose. So please, when scrubbing or scrummaging in small dark places remove your diamonds and put them in a safe place until you are done.

3/ Holidays are great and splashing with the kids in a pool or sunbathing on a beach may be wonderful but don't spoil it all by taking the risk of losing your diamonds in water or in the sand. Losing your diamond ring in the ocean or in a pool is quite common and a loose diamond coming off your engagement ring on the beach will be near to impossible to find. Better keep them in a safe box at the hotel than take them out during the day.

4/ Be careful not to wear your diamond rings in the shower, while washing your hair or even when doing the dishes. Washing detergents, ie. shampoo, conditioners and the like will make your skin slippery, your diamond ring or diamond may slip off and go down the drain. Also a build up of detergent can deposit on your diamond which will cause it to lose its lustre. So take your diamonds off before doing any of those things.

5/ Is it a good thing to keep your diamond jewellery on in bed? Well perhaps it is allright to keep your diamond engagement ring on but it is ill advised to keep your diamond earrings and pendant on as these may catch on your pillow case, the prongs can become loose which may cause a diamond to fall out and this may be difficult to find afterwards. Perhaps, therefore, it would be best to take this into consideration before going to bed.

So now you have seen that there are certain risks involved in wearing your diamonds at all times and it is up to you, as an individual, in your everyday lifestyle, to decide what is best. It is always good to be cautious as the loss of a diamond may be an expensive mistake so getting in the habit of putting them in a safe place under certain circumstances would be a wise move.
