subject: The Essentials Of A San Francisco Vacation [print this page]

When you are in San Francisco for the first time there are so many activities you may want to participate in. No matter how long or short your vacation is you have to make sure that you do all those classic activities while you are there.

First, you have to make sure that you incorporate the golden gate bridge during your vacation. There are some people that feel the best way to do this is by driving across the golden gate bridge and enjoying the view from the warmth of their car.

Often times, when you are looking at the bridge it is cold and windy. There are not many days in the bay of San Francisco that you will be able to take off your sweater and bask in the coastal sunshine and warmth.

If you are not a fan of being outside you may enjoy driving across the bridge. It is hard to understand and comprehend the enormity of the bridge when you are simply driving through it and cannot stand next to it and touch it.

A great way to enjoy the city and the bridge is to bike to the bridge. There are tons of different biking trails that allow you to go straight from down town San Francisco all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge.

You can even make some scenic pit stops along the way. There is a ferry that will take you out to a small island located right off the coast that is full of biking trails and has some of the most naturally beautifully scenery of the city.

On your bike ride to the bridge you will also be able to enjoy the view of the many different condos in the city. These condos have so much personality and are so original that it is fun to ride up and down some of the avenues.

As you are out on your bike you want to make sure that you are obeying all of the traffic laws. There are lots of one way streets and hills in the city so biking throughout the small roads can be somewhat frustrating.

You have to make sure that you are aware of your surroundings and especially aware of those pedestrians that you will be passing by. Some of the biking can get strenuous because of the hills that you will be biking up and down.

After you have reached the Golden Gate Bridge there are many different look out points that you can stop and take pictures from. When you get to those look out points you will be able to catch your breath and take in the beauty of the bridge.

There are a lot of people that do not understand just how large this bridge is. After you have biked to the Golden Gate Bridge you then have to bike back to the bike rental shop so that you can return your bike.

If you have finished biking to the bridge in enough time to see a Broadway musical there are always musicals in the Orpheum theatre. This theatre is a classic theatre and frequented by many from around the world.

The theatre has intricacies that are not common in the building style of today. Taking the time to arrive early for your show so that you are truly able to appreciate and take in the history and beauty of the building may be a good idea.

When you are not in the mood to see a show or if you do not like the Orpheum theatre you can always spend your evening in Union Square. There is always something going on in Union Square and you will get the feeling of being in the city.

The hustle and bustle of shopping bags is not lacking when you are in this part of town. There are so many different stores to shop in that it can be overwhelming and difficult to choose where you want to go.

Browsing through Union Square could be a very long process. If you have the day to shop and this is the way that you want to go about shopping make sure that you wear comfortable shoes and get plenty of sleep the night before.

Union Square is also brimming with restaurants that will give you a taste of San Francisco. The fresh fish and seafood is most famous at the majority of these restaurants because they are located so close to the bay and fisherman's wharf.
