Playing American football is a great way to toughen up and to get in shape. It is a grueling sport that requires you to train year round and remain in good shape in order to maximize your playing abilities. However, if you are weak or out of shape, playing football is definitely not for you.

1. Quarter Backs require having superb arm strength, an ability to run, and the ability to take a hit. 2. Half Backs need to depend on a number of things. Speed, agility, carrying the ball, awareness, and the knowledge they are tackled often. 3. Wide Receivers need to have speed, agility, and the ability to catch and be tackled. 4. Defenders, especially lineman, need to be all muscles and very large. As a lineman, you will get pushed around a lot, and have to tackle people a lot as well. 5. Kickers and Punters are about leg strength. You will get pushed down sometimes, but not often. 6. Offensive Linemen, needs lots of leg strength. You should be big and able to throw your weight around that means muscles are a plus. You also need to be quick and fast for blocking.

Understand that weight training is always associated with football since the game is a physical one. Knowing how to train properly with weights is crucial especially if you're working independently. Don't spend two hours on upper body and ignore the lower body but balance out the training so all muscles are being strengthened. Also, find a training regimen and follow the program.

Exercise hard, but don't forget to take breaks. Exercising too hard could hurt you and jeopardize your chances of making the team. Work hard, but know your limitation.
