subject: Brush Now To Avoid Surgery Later [print this page]

Taking care of your teeth is something that is of the upmost importance. Although we have all been told to brush our teeth every night by our parental figures, in reality, dental hygiene is much more than just brushing your teeth at night.

Starting with this small step can be very helpful though. When you are able to start with a small step you will have something that you will be able to use as a foundation when you are forming the habits for the rest of your life.

When you brush your teeth you have to make sure that you are not pressing down too hard on your gums. If you press down too hard on your gums you may end up cutting them microscopically with your toothbrush.

Some people have cut down do hard that the cuts are no longer microscopic. When you are brushing make sure that you are remembering that your toothbrush should only be gently massaging your gums and teeth.

It is important that you understand this concept before you start to get into the habit of brushing your teeth. When you understand this concept you will be making sure that your brushing habits are not detrimental.

You should be brushing your teeth at least two times a day. Although you should be brushing at least twice you should not be brushing twice in the afternoon, instead you should be brushing once in the morning when you wake up and right before you go to bed.

Brushing before you go to bed will provide to be a great tool against any dental problem you may end up having. When you are able to brush your teeth at night you will be providing a chance for your teeth to rest plaque free.

If you are not brushing at night you are allowing all of the food particles from throughout the day to sit on your teeth. The longer that these food particles sit on your teeth the more they will decompose and eat at the enamel on your teeth.

The enamel on your teeth is what protects your teeth from getting cavities. You want to make sure that you are allowing this enamel to stay strong because once it has been compromised it does not come back.

After you have gotten into the habit of brushing you must then get into the habit of flossing. Many dentists say that if you could only develop one habit for dental hygiene it should be the habit of flossing.

When you floss you will be removing all of the food particles from between your teeth. Throughout the day you will, naturally, be getting food particles that stick between the cracks in your teeth.

As you start to floss you may even notice that your gums bleed a little bit in the beginning. DO not be alarmed at the small amount of blood on your floss, but instead keep on flossing at least once a day.

The reason that you have blood on your floss when you are done flossing is because your gums are not used to the habit yet. As you continue to floss they will get stronger and stronger and you will not have to worry about the blood on the floss.

After you get into the habit of brushing and flossing you should then work on making sure you have mouth rinse in your bathroom to use every day. The bacteria killing agent in the mouth wash will make up for any parts of your mouth that you missed.

Many people wonder if taking care of their teeth is actually a necessity. Some people even say that when our ancient ancestors were on the earth they never had access to a tooth brush and they ended up being just fine.

There are still many people in rural parts of the world that do not have access to a toothbrush. Although many of these people end up being fine, you have to make sure that you are not duped into believing this theory.

Those people that do not or did not have access to toothbrushes do not or did not have access to all of the processed food that we eat. Our diet has a huge affect on the way that our teeth are able to stay healthy.

Eating a diet of only natural foods will help your teeth stay natural and healthy. Because many of us cannot go one meal without eating processed foods it is important that we take the time to give our teeth the tender love and care that they need.
