subject: The Exam Preparation Process Guaranteeing A Real Pass [print this page]

The traditional way of exam preparation is exhausting oneself with long hours of studies, memorizing the material, recollecting the facts discussed at lectures, sometimes even sitting at nights. The result may really be positive in case the student does not get too exhausted and nervous during the preparation process. However, there is increasing evidence of impropriety of the described process; students prove to have much poorer knowledge in the long run because of too much information being pushed into the human brain within a short period of time. The knowledge obtained during intense exam preparation is usually short-term, so the effectiveness is put under question regarding the long-term professional objectives of every student. The educational system should promote an alternative approach to studies that would guarantee the knowledge remaining with the student and the ability to apply it further in the students career.

How to Stay Alive during Exam Preparation?

1. Learning for a pure pass has often led students to nowhere. When the student learns the material knowing that the only way he or she will apply it is to pass an exam, it is a mostly guaranteed failure. All teachers check the students preparedness for a future profession, so students need not only memorize the material by heart, but be able to improvise, apply that knowledge to definite real life situations and explain their choices. Only this way the exam will be a true success and not only a formal pass.

2. Studying in testing groups is likely to reduce tension in the studying process and increase the success of all studying efforts. The mutual assessment of each others skills, the ability to fill in the gaps in knowledge of each other, and peer explanation that is much easier than the scholarly book definition are likely to help in the preparation process enormously and reduce the time needed for preparation itself.
