subject: How To Fit Exercise Into Your City Life In 3 Steps [print this page] Living in London can be one of the best experiences you have in your life. Allowing you to be in the centre of everything from some of the best theatres in the world to the headquarters of many of the world's leading organisations, living in London can leave you wanting for nothing.
However, with so much to see and do, life can seem so much more intense than anywhere else in the country and it can be difficult to fit any form of exercise into your daily life without proper planning and preparation.
If you do take the time to prepare, though, there are 3 easy ways that you can fit regular exercise into your daily city life.
1. Walk everywhere - thanks to the fantastic public transport system that London has, if you don't want to, you don't have to walk for long no matter where you want to get to in London.
Although the transport system is great and extremely useful, if you live in the city, you can become too reliant upon it. No one doubts that you'll have to use a bus, tube or maybe even both to get to and from work, but it's always worthwhile looking to see if it's actually possible to, for instance, to get off the tube a stop or two earlier to walk to your office.
What's more, unless you're working on a particularly high floor of a large office block, take the stairs rather than the lift. You might be tired out the first few times, but after a week or two, you'll be able to reach your floor without much trouble at all.
2. Go to a gym in London first thing - a lot of gyms in London open particularly early and stay open later than others around the country do and therefore if you're struggling to find the time to go to a gym in London during what most would call normal hours, consider getting up earlier in the morning and heading to the gym before work - apart from the fact it's likely to be quieter, attend a gym close to your work and you'll miss the busy morning commute.
3. Use the Cycle Hire scheme - launched on 30 July 2010 (as explained in an article by the BBC on the opening day), the Cycle Hire scheme in London, which is currently sponsored by Barclays, allows for people to loan any of the 5,000 bikes which are located at special docking stations around London.
Currently requiring for people to sign up to the scheme to receive a key, the idea is for Londoners to be able to pick a bike up in one part of the city and ride it to the other, not only making them fitter and healthier, but reducing the amount of congestion on the roads - and the amount of stress that goes with it, too,
