subject: Latisse - Eyelash Growth [print this page]

Since the Egyptians used kohl in 4000 BC, people have been trying to define their eyes for the purpose of feeling more beautiful. Your local supermarkets and department stores are filled with products that promise the look of thicker lashes. False eyelashes have gotten so sophisticated that individual lashes are being applied one at a time during hours long salon sessions. Eyelash growth products are a huge industry that make a lot of people a lot of money every year but that often do not deliver on their promises. Latisse is a very different kind of eyelash growth product because it is backed by scientific research and clinical studies.

Latisse was not originally created for cosmetic purposes. In 2001, Latisse was being used as a medication to treat a disease called glaucoma. Glaucoma is a degenerative condition of the optic nerve. Patients using the medication noticed an unintended but not unwelcome side effect after using the drug for a few weeks. Their eyelashes where getting longer and thicker by using the medicine.

Now, Latisee is available to anyone with hypotrichosis, the medical term for not enough eyelashes, or anyone who wishes to cosmetically enhance their eyelashes. Latisse is applied with a special applicator across the base of the top eyelid. Patients have reported noticing more and thicker lashes as early as two weeks into treatment, though more often the time frame is closer to six weeks. Nearly everyone sees longer and thicker lashes by week 12.

If all the patient information in the medicine guide is followed, there are very few reported side effects. A few of those who used the product noticed temporary redness, itching, or burning at the lash line. Eyelash growth will stop if you stop using

Latisse, but it will resume again with continued use. It will take approximately 90 days to see the results you saw before.
