subject: Five common accidents suffered in the workplace [print this page]

Unfortunately, accidents can happen from time to time in the workplace. And it is not exclusive to those who work with heavy machinery or lifting.

Here are some of the common accidents people suffer in the workplace:

1. Slips and falls are thought to account for almost a third of all workplace accidents, often when there is a wet floor, an obstruction or damaged flooring. Although for many it may not lead to any serious injuries, some suffer broken limbs or head injuries.

2. Manual handling involves activity such as lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing, carrying , moving or any other form of strenuous duties. Back problems are the most common injuries that are caused, although it could effect anything from your hands and feet to your heart.

3. If your workplace has motorised vehicles coming in, going out or even moving things from one side of the building to the other, there is a potential for accidents to happen. Falling from or being struck by vehicles, things falling off them or vehicles over-turning due to being overloaded are all common hazards.

4. Electric shock injuries are potentially fatal and many workplaces carry such risks. Even when not fatal, severe and minor burns are also possible. Even if you're not an electrician, there may still be electrical hazards in your workplace.

5. Other potential causes of accidents in the workplace relate to hazardous chemicals, fire and water, and machinery.

Anyone who has suffered an accident or injury in the workplace could be entitled to a compensation claim. If so, it could be a good idea to find a No Win No Fee solicitor.
