subject: Self Defense Techniques You Should Know About [print this page]

The ability and knowledge to defend yourself is nowadays as necessary as reading and writing. The society these days is filled with people who have the intent of harming others. The use of self defense techniques is something that you should know to keep you and your loved ones safe from such people. The good news though is that learning the skill and art of self defense is easier than you have imagined. You only have to practice and implement the same principles to guard and defend yourself from varying situations and unforeseen circumstances.

Your feet is probably among the most rudimentary part of the human body that is rarely considered. They are usually meant for walking and running away but not as a weapon against an assailant. People tend to use the feet for the basic functions only. The feet actually are made up of several strong bones and ligaments that can be used for defending yourself without the fear of causing any harm or damage to it. On the other hand, punching can easily break your fingers and severely bruise your hand as well.

One of the best foot parts that you can use against an aggressor is your heel. A persons heel contains less moving parts and thus is least susceptible to harm or any form of damage. Kicking with the use of your toes or other foot part is usually not recommended when it comes to self defense techniques because every toe is made up of small fragile bones. A poorly executed kick may break or fracture these small bones. But still, kicking is better than doing nothing at all. Just make sure you are kicking the right way.

Chances are, youll be attacked from your back with the upper part of your body tightly held and drawn back. If in case this happens to you, try to bring your knee up as far as you can to provide more strength upon kicking. Release your knee with as much strength as possible towards the attacker and get your heel to connect with your assailants body as you can. This can potentially bring in pain and when they become distracted, you are given the chance to free yourself and run for help at the nearest police post.

The most delicate bones in your body can be found in the hands. During an assault, take the chance to grab your attackers hands or fingers and inflict pain. You can break it or bite it. The hands have a lot of pain receptors that will cause your assailant to be momentarily incapacitated. You can grab one of his fingers, most preferably the ring or little finger. Put a lot of effort in bending it and allow yourself some time to escape and shout for help.

Among the best self defense techniques that you can use is a blow in the groin region. This will make your aggressor stumble to a big degree. You can take this time to free yourself from that attacker and run for safety.
