subject: Network Marketing Promotes Relationships [print this page]

Multilevel marketing companies sell their products or services by people who are known as Distributors. These distributors are recruited into the business by people who are already working with the company and they are called Sponsors because they are sponsoring people to work under them in their downline. An mlm team grows from these activities. The Sponsor will, hopefully, be a person who is capable of leading a team which will be successful in building up their own downlines as well as selling the products.

In order to keep an mlm team engaged in the business, some Sponsors believe that they need to be sort of a cheerleader for them. Sometimes people use quotes to keep their downline interested in their businesses. Here is an example: "Count your age by friends, not years. Count your life by smiles, not tears."-John Lennon. Quoting people can help you get a point across, but what is this Sponsor's point?

The point of quoting another person to your mlm team is not clear; what comes across is a little easier to see. It will be clear that you are not bothering to think your own thoughts to bring them toward inspiration. It would take more than a few sentences to have a meaningful interaction between Sponsor and Distributor and a quote from an outside person does not bring us to this point. What ends up happening is that the Sponsor adds quote after quote, never stopping at just one.

Here is another quote that this Sponsor likes to bombard his people with by Jim Rohn. Ready? Here it is: "Nothing teaches character better than generosity." Okay. How will this help his mlm team in their next moves in their businesses? If this Sponsor were to trust his own words he would be able to come up with a better way to inspire his people and his people would be better equipped to handle their businesses; it doesn't apply to anything specific in network marketing. He could use a quote from other people and then explain it in his own words and add his own stories, but he doesn't do this.

The best way to help your mlm team become better is to recite your own words and thoughts. If all you can do is recite the words of other people your downline will think that you are not capable of telling them anything new or do not care enough to invent something new. If either one is true it's unlikely that you will successfully put together an mlm team that will be able to win any awards selling the product or service. It will take effort to encourage a group of people to do well in the network marketing business. Most of your team will be the type of person who is not really a self-starter and will be dependent on you to help them get going otherwise, they will quit., All you have to do is be yourself and that will be good enough because you will be using your own words.
