subject: The Brilliant Acer Stream Featuring An Amoled Display [print this page]

Acers first foray into the high end smartphone market was not a total success. The Liquid A1, despite being a reasonable model, achieved disappointing sales figures. The companies second model, the Stream, is a far more impressive affair, with an eye catching design and impressive specification.

The Acer Stream stands out from its competitors in terms of design, thanks to a finish that is predominantly dark metallic with traces of black. Not only does the handset look expensive, it also feels it thanks to an excellent build quality. Despite incorporating a large 3.7" display, the handset itself measures in at 119.5 x 63 x 11mm, with the depth of the product being particularly slimline. The phones display is very impressive. Utilising the elusive AMOLED technology, the screen produces clear and vivid images. Text appears clear with minimal jagged edges, and if anything does appear a little on the small side, the excellent pinch and zoom feature enables you to zoom in and out very easily. Another advantage of this style of screen is the improved viewing angles that it offers, as well as the improved visibility in bright conditions. The screen incorporates 3 capacitive shortcut keys at the bottom, and then beneath these there are 3 physical keys designed to make operating your phone as a stand alone music player much easier. These keys do slightly spoil the sleek looking fascia, but on the other hand this can be forgiven for the great operation that they offer.

On the back of the Acer Stream is where you will find the handsets digital camera. This has a 5 mega pixel resolution and benefits from an autofocus feature that helps keep your pictures looking clear. The camera also benefits from some more specialised settings that include resolution, white balance and a handy self timer option. When shooting video footage is when the camera really comes into its own. Thanks to the 720P high definition capture, video looks crystal clear, and there is even the option to easily view it on a home television thanks to the phones HDMI socket and supplied lead. The Stream features a micro SD card slot that can support cards upto 32Gb should you find the 2GB of built in memory not enough to meet your requirements.

Overall, the Acer Stream is a very satisfying handset that benefits from a modern look, large screen and excellent multi media features.
