subject: Need Diet Motivation Use These Tips [print this page] An oft missed key ingredient in losing weight is the right diet motivation. It is hard to lose weight when you are full of negative thoughts. This could be part of your past diet failures. It is important to stay positive when trying to lose weight.
There may be some value in thinking yourself thin. At least don't think yourself fat. As a person who was overweight myself, I know that once I found the proper diet motivation things got better. Once I had convinced myself that I was going to lose weight and get in shape there was a positive change in me.
You need to keep your expectations reasonable. You need to realize that this is a marathon not a sprint. Change will not come overnight. Give yourself time to change both your weight and outlook. It's important to make positive steps everyday.
Record your progress in a journal of some sort. Personally I like the idea of a weight loss blog. Sometimes just reading over your milestones in your journal will be all you need to find that diet motivation again.
Use the following steps to help with diet motivation. Use these tips to make the most out of whatever diet you decide to follow.
Step 1, Define realistic goals:
Before you can set your goals you need to research and learn what someone with your body type and height should weigh. Next of course subtract that from your current weight.
Then you will need to set a goal date. Ideally you should try to lose about two pounds a week, keep this in mind when you plan your timeframe. Take this into account and set weekly and or monthly goals for yourself in addition to your long term goal.
Keep in mind that properly setting attainable goals is very important to weight loss. Having unrealistic goals may be one of the worst things a dieter can do. This is a surefire way to deflate that diet motivation completely. There is nothing like missing a goal, to send you into what I call the what's the point tail spin. I think you know what I mean you look in the mirror or at the scale and say I'm always going to be fat. The next thing you know you've got a face full of double quarter pounder.
Contrary to that is how good it feels to reach goals even the small ones. Celebrating the small victories along the way are great to keep you motivated for the long haul.
Step 2, Define your motivation to diet:
What is the main reason for you wanting to lose weight? Only you know the answer to this question. There are many good reasons people decide to start losing weight. So what's yours?
Are you sick of the ridicule? I know I was. Would you like to extend your life? Maybe your diet motivation is that you want to live longer for your kids or long enough to have kids and enjoy them. Do you want to be more attractive? This is another reason that motivated me to lose weight.
That was just some of my diet motivations to get your wheels turning. You should do some soul searching and find all the reasons you decided to start this journey. Remember to record all of them somewhere and keep them handy for those days when motivation is lacking.
These diet motivations are very helpful, however a good weight loss program is also necessary to lose weight Think of them as support for your diet. The only thing you need now is the appropriate weight loss program for you.
