subject: Golf In 3d: A Step Forward For Golf And Golf Fans [print this page]

It's no big secret that 3D is making a huge comeback. Once seen as cheesy and only appropriate for B movies, it is now used as a selling point for all major blockbusters. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find a big budget movie right now that isn't available in 3D. With its popularity, it was only a matter of time before 3D came to the small screens at home. How amazing would it be to be able to catch your favorite action show in 3D? Or, what about sports like hockey, baseball and golf? Comcast has decided to lead the pack, by making the 2010 Masters available for 3D viewing.

Never before have so many people had access to watch a 3D event at the same time. This is the first time that a live event is being offered in next-generation 3D broadcast. It's also the first time that a 3D event will also be available at the same time online. By using multi-camera next-gen 3D production, Comcast will show the Masters like they've never been seen before.

And who wouldn't want to watch the golf greats play in 3D? Viewers will end up feeling as if they are actually there, watching from the sidelines. 3D brings detail to the game that the viewing public has never experienced before. It's the next best thing to actually being on the golf course.

And Augusta National Golf Club has such wonderful topography, with lots of dips and hills that seeing it in 3D will be simply breathtaking. And getting to see the course in 3D will let viewers really appreciate what the golfers are up against on this stellar course. It will bring the viewing public's understanding of the game to a whole new level.

Comcast has a dedicated channel that showed around 2 hours of live match play each day. Through the use of DVR, you also had the options of watching the 3D play at a later time, when it's convenient for you. Unfortunately, not everyone with a TV can access the 3D features for the 2010 Masters. There are some things that you need in order to view the Masters' 3D play. You will need either a 3DTV or a PC that has a 3D enabled media player. And, of course, you will need your very own pair of 3D glasses. The glasses can be specific to the make and brand of your 3DTV, so check with the manufacturer to make sure you get the right pair.

Comcast is making viewing the Masters in 3D easy for its customers by doing all of the hard work themselves. The company has been working for a while on this in order to make sure that it goes off without a hitch. And if can't watch the Masters in 3D, you can still catch the tournament through Comcast, which will also have it available for regular viewing. For those that didn't have access to a 3DTV, there were also viewing parties set up so that everyone had a chance to experience the game in 3D.

This is really a huge step for 3D viewing, and also the game of golf. By allowing people to view golf events like the Masters in 3D, golf could end up with a whole new viewership. And, as the technology continues to make strides forward and more and more people have the option of viewing events like the Masters at home in 3D, people will be able to experience watching golf like never before.
