subject: Managers Who Can Become Successful In This Career [print this page]

Becoming a manager is the dream of the majority of young people who study management, marketing, finance, economy etc. The heavy mass media impact has formed the distorted perception of a manager as a top level employee getting much money, having fun in the best clubs of the city and living a beautiful life just due to the ability to manage the work of his or her employees. It is most often true that according to that vision the manager him- or herself does not do anything but only distribute the tasks. It is a great mistake to see the managerial position in the following way. There are some advantages of being a manager, but at the same time the work is really hard, which has to be known before applying to it.

Realistic Facts about Being a Manager.

1. The initial function of a manager is to coordinate the work of other employees; however, it does not give him or her any priority in hierarchical or financial terms. The issue is that the manager usually earns as much as his or her employees and handles much more work than they do.

2. The manager has to be able to sacrifice some personal issues at times to bring the cases of his or her department to order. Managers often sit much longer than all employees and come to work earlier than others. They also have to take unexpected situations and challenges into consideration, that is, learn to work in turbulent conditions.

3. One more issue of concern for true managers is the development of their personal and communication skills. Managers often have to hold negotiations, to discuss burning issues with their employees etc. so they have to have some power of persuasion or organization over them.
