subject: Deciding On Breast Augementation [print this page]

If you are considering having breast augmentation surgery here are some basic facts to consider towards helping you along in your decision process. First off it is important that you fully understand that even plastic surgery is surgery so don't undertake it lightly. Complications are rare but they do happen, that's why your doctor will go over possible complications that can occur, even if they are remote possibilities.

Secondly your recovery time is not written in stone. Don't rush yourself to return to normal activities just because you are supposed to feel fully recovered by a certain time frame. How fast or slowly you feel up to returning to your every day activities depends on a variety of factors such as your overall health, your age, any complications encountered during your procedure and of course what you had done. If you are having multiple procedures done your recovery will be longer than someone who is just having one procedure done.

Generally women who under go breast augmentation surgery don't experience a long recovery time but you will have some discomfort from surgery. Breast augmentation surgery will generally leave you a bit swollen and bruised but the discomfort should not be extreme and it should be easily controllable with pain medication.

Of course when you consider the risk you also have to weigh in the benefits to cosmetic surgery. You will have the body that you always wanted and you will feel happier about your appearance. This can have a positive psychological impact and raise your self esteem.

Once you decide that you are ready to undertake what will amount to a big change in your outward appearance you need to decide how large you want your new breast to be. It is easy for many women who are small breasted to over estimate how large they want to go in an effort to feel bigger. Often this results in having implants that are too large for your body frame which gives the overall appearance of not being natural looking. Ideally you want to have implants that will look natural and fit your body frame which is what your surgeon will discuss in depth and detail with you when you schedule your first consultation.

Many surgeons recommend trying out a pair of saline implants in your bra before you have surgery to make sure the new larger size breast are what you are going to be comfortable with in the long haul. Remember once you have your surgery it's not so easy to just remove the implants and try on new sizes so make sure you fully understand your size options before you commit your choice to surgery.
