subject: Use A Different Method In Caring For Your Fish For Each Season [print this page]

"Pond fishes need different kinds of caring depending on the temperature of the water and the season. Listed below are tips to help you to take care of your fish in different seasons.

WINTER CARE

Fishes are known to be slow and semi-dormant animals. Remember that fishes do not have the ability to digest food and they are also cold-blooded animal thus their circulation drops along with the temperature of the pond.

If you see that the surface of your pond's water has crystallized or frozen, try making holes to it surface so that there is a space that a fish can go to get water. Melting the ice would be better than braking it. Breaking the ice would cause disturbance in the water and may cause harm or even death to your fishes. Putting a hot pot or any metal on top of the ice and letting the ice melt will do the trick.

SPRING CARE

This is one of the most dreaded seasons by fish pond owners. A lot of people do not like this season because it is on this season that most fish pond water turn to thick and green. Adding chemical or non-chemical treatment to the water will help if you want to reduce the greening of your fish pond then a You can have your water run through an ultraviolet device which kills the algae that causes the blurring of the water if you have a few extra bucks.

AUTUMN CARE

Your fish should start to move and behave a little slower than usual because it is at this point that the water's temperature starts to drop during this time of year. To prevent leaves from falling directly toward the pond, you can put a net over the pond during this season.

SUMMER CARE

Fishes are most active during the summer season. That is why it is very important for you to regularly check the pond for any signs of diseases and parasite infestation carried by birds, new fishes and other animals.

Visit your local pond garden store and ask for assistance right away if you see any signs of diseases or parasite infestation. Most of these diseases can easily be fixed, and others difficult to eradicate. If left unattended, some of these diseases or parasites may kill your fish. Taking care of fish is like taking a care of a family member. Don't wait for something worse to happen.
