subject: 5 Ways To Burn Over 500 Calories A Day Without Even Knowing You're Exercising [print this page] Every single one of us carries out some form of exercise on a daily basis. A lot of us know that we're exercising (as, for instance, we attend London gyms), but a lot of us don't know we are exercising, as it's something we do normally (taking the stairs to your office rather than the lift, for example).
Whilst you will no doubt be carrying out exercise of some form every day, it's important that you are aware of what exercise you're doing and how you're doing it, to be able to make the most of it.
And just because you become aware of the exercise you're doing and it turns out to not be a substantial amount, you don't have to sign up to, for example, any of the London gyms - unless you want to - as there are various ways to lose a few hundred calories each day just by spending a little more time going about your normal activities.
The following 5 points show ways to lose 500 calories without traditional exercise. The figures are estimates based on a 12 stone person carrying out each activity, as calculated by a calorie counting resource on Health Status.
1. Walk to work and back - if you carry out just over 1 and a half hours of walking (at 3 miles per hour) each day, simply put you'll burn 500 calories straight away. Although it may seem like a lot every day, if you split it into 2 separate 45 minute walks, one to work and one back, it will soon become something you simply take as a given.
2. Carry your child around the house - although it's recommended that you stimulate children at all times, perhaps putting them in a play pen with various toys, they always want to be with their parents and so rather than spending time with them in the play pen, pick them up and carry them around whilst you go about your general day to day tasks.
Aside from the fact you'll be able to stimulate your child by talking to them constantly, you'll burn 564 calories by carrying them for 2 hours throughout the day (and remember, it doesn't have to be all at once).
3. Iron - if you've got a large family and someone has to spend several hours ironing everyone's clothes, don't pass this chore onto someone else in the future, as 3 hours of ironing can see you burn 514 calories.
4. Spend time in the garden - if you've got a garden with a relatively large lawn, spend time mowing it once every week or two, as just over 90 minutes spent mowing a lawn and carrying out general gardening duties will see you burn in excess of 500 calories.
5. Go fishing - although fishing might seem like one of the more relaxing sporting hobbies, it can in fact result in a substantial amount of calories being lost, as by spending just 3 hours fishing, you'll be losing 696 calories.
