Built in the year 1816 - The Dagu Fort served as a protector of Beijing, the capital city of the Quing Dynasty still stands as a landmark 60 kilometres south-eastern part of the city. Its people consider the Fort that symbolizes courage, heroism and culture one of the three renowned treasures of Tianjin.

The Dagu Fort is a standing landmark that depicts many a story and at the same time was a symbol heroism in Chinas struggle against foreign invaders, this structure is a renowned attraction among many. Built as a military requirement, the fortress was able to withstand four wars that saw a number of foreign insurgents and armed forces fighting their way against the Chinese to seek economy and political rule over the country.

These forts were named; Zhen, Men, Hai, Gao, Shitoufeng and Wei and these were involved during the cold blooded war. After the exhausting battles against the enemies, the forts were ordered to be demolished by the Government. Although four were destroyed, two emplacements survived and they now function as key tourist attractions in the city. The Hai Fort and the Wei Fort are the two fortresses that still survive in Beijing.

A visitor to the Dagu Fort will find a museum dedicated to the site, a monument and two other forts known as Hai and the Wei Fort. The museum was built in 1997 and it reveals a plentiful amount of relics, ancient collections, objects, pictures, illustrations and the extensive history of the emplacement. Enthusiasts can also see the round Wei Fort that is built with brick and surrounded by cannons, which were used during the gruelling Second Opium War in the years 1856-1860.
