Big White for first time Overseas Ski Holiday

I have skied Australian and New Zealand ski fields for many years always thoroughly enjoying my experience. My wife and I decided when we had children to wait until the youngest was 5 before tackling a family ski holiday.

After a few trips to the local resorts with our young family we took the giant step and booked an overseas ski holiday, BIG WHITE Ski Resort in British Columbia, CANADA.

Fantastic, Brilliant, Magical, Memorable, Breathtaking, Value for Money are adjectives that come to mind instantly. Everything I had dreamed of and that a ski holiday should be!!

Big White Ski Resort wins for the following reasons;

1.Value for money. Yes the plane flights will set you back some serious dollars but after that the whole trip is insanely cheap compared to skiing in Australia or New Zealand. Lift tickets, ski school, private lessons, food on the hill, groceries on the hill, and the absolute winner, the price for on the snow accommodation. Basically every accommodation option is ski in /out. Our exit door from the lodge linked to a ski run with the top of a lift a mere 75m!!!!

2.The weather was a balmy minus 5 for most of our stay with snowfalls every night during our stay. Lets just say from our local skiing experience when it snows it is accompanied by strong winds, and generally unpleasant skiing conditions. Wow, what a difference, when the snow fell here the wind was practically nonexistent, my face didnt get sand-blasted and lifts were not put on wind hold.

3.The snow quality was just delightful. Because the temperature stays minus the snow stays very dry and in great condition. Hero snow is a comment heard around the resort, meaning it is very easy to ski.

4.Love skiing in the trees, this is the place.

5.The other activities around the resort are endless. Tubing, ice skating, sleigh rides, kid and adult skidoos, outdoor open fires and hot chocolate, night time kids activity evenings, the many family friendly restaurants, excursions to Kelowna, Silver Star and our personal favorite attending a National League Ice Hockey fixture.

Now I am not a snow snob but once I have tasted the sweet delights of the Canadian Ski fields, namely Big White it will be very hard to return to the mostly hard packed, sometimes icy ski fields of Australia and New Zealand. What I should say is the local resorts are only going to see me again when the wife refuses to make skiing the major vacation for the year.
