Is your computer slower than a speeding turtle? Are you looking to speed up your PC? Here are five great ways that you can speed up your computer today.

1. Defrag Your Hard Drive - The files on your computer are stored in pieces that are scattered throughout your hard drive. This makes the hard drive have to work harder to file and access information. Running a disk defragmenter will increase the speed of the computer by allowing the hard drive to access information faster. The disk defragmenter can by found by going to the start menu and clicking on "all programs", then clicking on "accessories", and then "system tools". In order to keep your hard drive running at optimum speed it is recommended that you run your disk defragmenter once per month. Please be advised that defragmenting your hard drive will take a considerable amount of time depending on the size of your hard drive. On average, it takes about 2 -4 hours to defragment a hard drive.

2. Add Memory - Adding memory will increase your computer's ability to work with multiple programs simultaneously. It will allow your computer to multi-task with greater efficiency. Depending on your computer model, adding memory can be as simple as taking the case off and plugging the memory chip into an open memory slot. If you're not comfortable working with the inside of your computer then take it into a technician and let them put the memory in. It is a very simple installation so the cost is usually minimal.

3. Remove Spyware - If you spend anytime surfing the internet whatsoever then you have probably inadvertantly downloaded spyware. It is very prevalent and is included in some very popular downloads. Spyware can quickly slow your computer down and cause errors. The best way to remove spyware is with a software program like Spyzooka which will detect, remove, and block all types of spyware and adware threats.

4. Turn Off Background Processes - If you haven't restarted your computer in a while then you might have quite a few programs running in the background that you don't even know about. These programs are just sitting there in the background sucking up system resources and slowing your computer down. If you want to speed up your computer then hit control+alt+delete and click on the processes tab. If you see something running that you don't want to run then simply click on it and click "end task". Be careful though, some processes are necessary to run while windows runs. Here's a hint - if you don't feel comfortable ending background processes then just purchase a registry cleaner. Most registry cleaners come equipped to automatically handle background processes.

5. Clean Your Windows Registry - I saved the most important for last. Your windows registry is where your computer stores information about programs and applications. When you install new software on your computer entries are made in the registry. Over time, these entries become corrupt and inconsistent which causes programs to run slower as they attempt to reference the relevant data that they need to operate. If you are not cleaning your windows registry at least once per month then you are putting your system at risk for the blue screen of death. This can be easily avoided by purchasing registry cleaner software.
