This is the Very First Place You Should Go
The first place you should use your Metal Detector before going any where else in order to learn how your machine works and what tones tell you you might be digging trash verses what the tones sound like when you are detecting something else is right outside your front and back door in your own yard. This is the best place not only to learn your machine, but it will also give you practice at cutting nice clean plugs. Cutting good plugs is very important because you want to leave the area you hunt in good condition. If you don't the MD'ing community suffers as a whole.
Tot Lots
These are a great place for not only the beginner, but the seasoned veteran as well. Tot lots are good for beginners because you are guaranteed to find something at a tot lot (play ground, park). You will find quite a bit of trash which will give you some more practice on your plugs, but your guaranteed to find some good stuff as well. (Remember finding trash is part of the game don't let it discourage you). The good thing about parks is that they can be hunted periodically. There is always traffic at a tot lot and they will never be totally hunted out. If you go often enough you may hunt out most the trash too, which will make it better for you in the long run.
Beach
The beach is another great place not only to get some practice, but you will find something on the beach be it change or possibly jewelry. The beach is actually a very good place to find jewelry. People wear their jewelry when they swim and have oily sun tan lotion on and as a result losing there valuables. You will also find things away from the water where people lay out on their towels and gather to eat.
These are great places for the person who is new to Metal Detecting. These are great places to Metal Detect even when you know what you are doing as well, but I wouldn't try any other areas until you get some practice at these places first.
