subject: Hawkwind : Still Have Their Personal Creations Of Musicians [print this page]

Hawkwind is a British rock band of the 1970s, which has the distinction of having produced records continuously since its creation until today. The pivot of the group is Dave Brock, the only member present in all disks. Currently, the musicians who most often are laccompagnent Alan Davey and Richard Chadwick Jason Stuart, keyboard player (for 4 years as a member of Hawkwind in its own right), died September 8, 2008.

In the first two decades, it was Simon King, Dik Mik, Robert Calvert, Harvey Bainbridge, Del Dettmar, Simon House (former High Tide, violinist David Bowie on tour courses), Huw Lloyd Langton, Terry Ollis and Nik Turner

( among others such as Tim Blake (Gong), Ginger Baker (Cream )...). Lemmy, the founder of Moterhead, played between 1972 and 1975, when he was fired from Hawkwind, under pressure from some members, after being arrested in possession of amphetamines at the Canadian border, while the last song he wrote for Hawkwind Moterhead called it went to create his own group. Among the prominent members, only Robert Calvert died.

In a first phase, the group chose to focus on the global stage show with projections of images and videos which will become, rather than putting forward any particular musician. Dancers were added in front of the stage and Del Dettmar often played behind the curtains of the stage away from the public eye, while two drummers (from 1974) repetitive chanting hymns. This era is the most original discs with Doremi Fasol Latido as cults, In search of space and the legendary Space Ritual live that remain of major works in the history of contemporary music. At that time, music, lyrics and stage show were those of celestial warriors, fighting with or against the primal forces of the universe, pioneers of the "travelers" (and imaging films Wars stars) and finally succeeding to that of the beatniks and other celestial tramps.

This period culminated with the intervention of the British writer of science fiction and fantasy that Michael Moorcock recited incantations and poetry on stage. It appeared especially hard on Warrior on the Edge of Time and can be seen on stage in 1985 on video and DVD of the tour chronicle of the black sword inspired by his elric cycle.

South africa's robert calvert brought the first personalization and putting forward a group member. He disguised himself on stage, adopting a theatrical play, a bit like Peter Gabriel with Genesis. The music feels the strangeness and charm quark disk. The celestial warriors became marabouts eighties, citing stories cryonics bodies or resuming the character of postwar atomic hell's angel what hell tanner's book by Roger Zelazny "damnation alley way", including the search particles such as quarks and charms.

After the death of Robert Calvert, the group reduced to dave brock approached the ecology and the indians (Electric teepee) but continued to return to themes related to science fiction and aliens (Alien 4, Area 54).

Dozens of musicians have been part of the group over the years, however, Dave Brock has been a mainstay since the early days of hawkwind. Among the prominent figures include lemmy (who left the group to form moterhead), nik turner, harvey bainbridge, del dettmar, dik mik, huw lloyd langton, robert calvert, paul tudolph (former pink fairies / deviants The member) and twink (another pink fairies member) and more recently, ron tree as bassist and frontman.

With cross-pollination of the pink fairies members led to albums released from under the names Pinkwind and the Hawk Fairies. The 1990 album Space Bandits included a female vocalist Bridget Wishart. Other members, Who may have been better known for their careers outside of hawkwind, include ginger baker and arthur brown. Of all The other band members, bass player Alan Davey has been "The longest with the band, joining in 1984 and leaving in 2007 (although he did leave for a few years within this period).

Hawkwind have been known for giving credit to non-musician members of their crew, such as liquid len, a lighting engineer, and stacia, a dancer. Their distinctive graphic design created by was Barney Bubbles, who created the later graphic identity for stiff records, where, Larry Wallis (pink fairies and moterhead with lemmy) was an in-house producer.

In general, fans of Hawkwind appreciate the parallels and personal creations of musicians who contributed to the group. Robert Calvert, Nick Turner, Alan Davey have recorded solo albums, and even D. Brock has made albums under his name.

Hawkwind music is rock and space. This is the kind of music suitable for walking from one galaxy to another in cosmic ships launched at breakneck speeds in the sidereal space. This does not happen often, it will merely push the volume to a respectable level to get good prints.
