Socks (March 1989 - February 20, 2009) was the family cat of U.S. President Bill Clinton. After two terms as its owner, Socks lived with the secretary Betty Currie, Clinton .

Socks was adopted by the Clintons in 1991 after he jumped into the arms of Chelsea Clinton while she was leaving the house of her piano teacher in Little Rock, Arkansas. Socks playing with her brother who was adopted Midnight by someone else. When Bill was elected president Cliton, Socks moved with the family of the official residence of the governor of Arkansas to the White House and became the "pet principal family" according to Bill Clinton, although it is known that the president shared his food and water with a stray tabby cat named Slippers. In the comic strip by Berkeley Breathed Outland Socks is involved in a homosexual affair with Bill the Cat. They appear together in a talk show along with other presidential pets (Checkers, Rex, Millie) to talk about animals gay presidents.

Socks is also present in an episode of the sitcom Murphy Brown in December 1993 entitled Sox and the Single Girl in Socks which is removed from the White House during a dinner with the press . On 1 April 1994, during a Larry King Live, a puppet of the Muppet Show in the likeness of Socks was the special guest interviewed by Kermit the frog , [Note 1].

In 1996, Socks is shown in a series of stamps of Central African Republic with Bill Clinton.

The video clip of Blister in the Sun Violent Femmes group tells the story of an obsessive fan wearing a suit Socks and trying to assassinate him when the cat made a public speech. Socks emerged unscathed while the offender is arrested.

Socks was the subject of a proposed video game for NES and Sega Mega Drive canceled in 1993 entitled Socks the Cat Rocks the Hill .
