subject: Hdtv's Are Getting Their Share Of The Market [print this page]

Technology has revolutionized how we live, at work and at home. Few of us would be willing to turn back the technology clock, even if such a choice were possible. Accordingly, many people expect to enjoy the benefits of current technology in their leisure time as well. For these people, LCD TVs and other HDTVs can be considered a necessity.

If you wish to keep up appearances, and not seem behind the times, it is important to own one of these LCD televisions or an inexpensive TV. People who own these more modern televisions seem more with-it, more technologically savvy, and more hip.

The desire for an inexpensive high definition television is made even stronger when children are in the home. Children may ask parents to purchase these items, regardless of cost, because they want to enjoy the features of high-definition broadcasting and wider screens in watching their programs.

Because parents don't want to disappoint their children, they may purchase one even if they don't think they can afford to spend the money or otherwise would not choose to purchase the item. Marketers know this. As a result, most of the advertising for LCD and inexpensive HDTVs is aimed at children, and is very effective.

Targeting children with advertisements for this purpose is not new. The ethics of aiming marketing at children have been debated for a long time. Regardless, companies exist to make a profit. If they can make profits more efficiently by targeting children and using them as the final push to get consumers to buy a product, they will do so.

Many people purchase HDTVs for reasons other than pressure from children, however. A major reason for the success of these is the picture quality. Most people agree that they have a much better picture quality than used to be available with television. Images seem more real, have more depth, and are much crisper. Watching television can start to feel like watching something real, as it happens.

Older televisions do not give the same sense of real.' The viewer is always aware that they are watching television a picture, not real life. With HDTVs, especially when surround sound stereo is used, the limiting effects of television are greatly reduced.

Most families have television. Now increasingly, many families are coming to see the latest in television viewing technology, the LCD or less expensive model as a required element for the home. Because of this, the expense of purchasing this technology is seen as a necessary expense, and people are willing to find a way to afford it.
