When you're in the market for a new website, the first thing you may think about is how will my website look? How many pages should I have? How much is it going to cost? These are only a few of the questions you may have in your mind, but I am going to give you another question to ask, which I feel is probably the most important question you should ask any web design company that is potentially going to develop your website. 'ARE YOU GOOD AT SEO (Search Engine Optimistaion)? Most website design companies will tell you they can get you decent rankings on the main search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing, but in reality this is probably untrue. I have written in previous articles the main points you should consider when deciding how to source the correct type of company that can help you create the online presence you are looking for. In this article I am going to give you some pointers on how to make sure the web design company you are choosing can deliver the type of search engine ranking results they say they can. Once a website has been designed and built there are 3 different types of Search Engine Work that people generally confuse with each other: On Site Optimisation

This is the first part of getting any website to be ranked by the search engines. When creating your website make sure the company you are using know how to optimise the pages on your website, below I have listed in order what you should be asking. Title Description: Make sure they optimise your home pages title for the main keywords on your website.

Also make sure that each title description on each page of your website is unique. If you use the same title description on every page of your website you will get ranking penalties. Meta Description: Make sure they optimise each title description on your website, again each meta description should be different for each page to avoid ranking penalties. Content: You may have heard the term, 'Content is King', this term could not be more true. The content on your web page is more important than any other part of optimising your website, make sure you write good relevant content for each page of your site. SEO (Search Engine Optimisation)

Once you have optimised your websites pages, probably the hardest part begins. Search Engine Optimisation also known as SEO is the process of building links from other website to yours for the relevant keywords that you are trying to gain 1st page rankings for. You need to build links on other sites, make sure each site has a separate IP address. Make sure the keywords you are putting on these sites match the keywords you have used to optimise your web pages. SEM (Search Engine Marketing)

This is the process of marketing your website through paid advertising, the most common and well known way of doing this is using 'Google Adwords'. Other ways of Marketing your website may be through affiliate schemes or banner advertising on other related websites.
