HIGHLAND, M.IHIGHLAND, M.I. MI car dealer Ryan LaFontaine has raised more than $200,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Michigan Chapter, contributing to the group's record-breaking $300,000 fundraising total for its annual Man and Woman of the Year campaign.

LaFontaine is a Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor and was diagnosed in 2008, right as the brand new Buick GMC Cadillac dealership was being constructed. His treatment ended Halloween of that same year and his cancer is in full remission.

According to the Detroit News, LaFontaine wholly immersed himself into the campaign putting in an "all or nothing" effort. Many events were planned as this MI car dealer wanted to set the bar as high as possible, all in the name of cancer research and support.

It was a personal quest and one that closely involved employees, friends and family members as LaFontaine rallied everyone together to raise money. From a casino night, golf outing, and classic car show, to the elegant night out at LaFontaine Manor or the Leukemia Bash at The Henry Ford museum, his fundraising events included something for everyone, including a pair of Pontiac Solstice convertibles awarded in a raffle.

In addition to being committed to charity and the community, LaFontaine Buick GMC Cadillac is the first LEED-certified, green dealership in Michigan. The state-of-the-art dealership incorporates environmentally friendly techniques such as geo-thermal technology, recycling water from car washes to irrigate the entire property, and utilizing natural light to reduce dependency on electricity.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is one of the largest voluntary health organizations in the world. The LLS is dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education and patient services. LLS has awarded more than $680 million in research funding since 1954.
