subject: Choosing the right golf resort and course [print this page]

If you want to entertain corporate clients or colleagues, or you just want to treat you and your friends, a golfing break can be just the ticket.

However, it can be difficult knowing which course and resort to choose. Here are some considerations that may help your decision...

1. Location. Unless you have a specific course in mind, or your favourite course doesn't have the availability, then start by thinking about the ideal location. Are you in the north west? The Midlands? Or the South? Whatever it is, do a little research on the best golf resorts within that region.

2. Facilities. People like different courses, so many of the attributes you find appealing will be subjective. However, finding a resort that has the facilities is something that you should consider. Do you want to relax after a round of golf in a luxury spa? Do you required hotel rooms? Do you need a conference centre to conduct business meetings? Whatever your needs, make sure you research what each resort has to offer.

3. Coaching. If you're a beginner or just want to use your golfing getaway to improve your game, you may be interested to know that many golfing resorts are able to provide lessons from on-site professionals.

4. Availability. Once you've found somewhere you like, you'll have to make sure they can accommodate you. If you're flexible with the dates you want to go, then that may not be too much of a problem, but as many resorts get booked up early, make the call early to avoid disappointment.

5. Value. Undoubtedly, you'll want value for money from your resort. This isn't as simple as choosing the cheapest, especially if you're treating yourself or trying to impress clients. Instead, think about the service and facilities on offer and ask about any deals they may be offering. If it's out of the holiday season or at short notice, many resorts have discounted deals to make your trip even more satisfying.

Choosing the right golf course is never easy, but it needn't be impossible. If you're looking for luxury hotels to make the experience even greater, do your homework and make the right decision.
