subject: Interval Training – How It Can Speed Up Fat Loss [print this page]

Traditionally, when someone embarks on a fat loss plan, they usually throw in some type of cardio. For some reason, this always includes jogging on the treadmill or elliptical. I don't why but almost everyone does it. I like to call it the blind leading the blind and here's why.

Naturally, cardio when someone is out of shape is very hard. They usually can't last that long or go very slow on the equipment. This is ok because it is new to the person so they tend to burn a lot of calories. This is also ok if they are very over weight. However, there are better ways out there to get faster results.

Interval training is the answer to this.

You see, with traditional cardio, over time, the body adapts quickly to the demand that is placed on it. It uses less and less calories as time goes on to perform the necessary work. The only way to make yourself work harder is to increase the duration, which means over time you will be at the gym for hours on end or run faster. Both usually don't pan out too well.

With interval training, you burn more calories in a shorter amount of time. Also, you will burn more calories over a longer period of time because you are increasing your EPOC levels, which are positively correlated with an increase in metabolism. Basically in laymen terms, you throw your body so out of whack, that it needs a lot of calories to bring itself back to homeostasis. This doesn't happen with regular cardio.

Interval training, when it comes to burning calories and losing weight, trumps traditional cardio hands down, no questions asked. Start implementing it in your fat loss regiment asap and start seeing faster results with less time in the gym.
