Palakkad - It is a town as well as municipality in the state. The profuse rainfall received by the state turned it into affluent in flora and fauna. Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary This wild life sanctuary was established in 1973 and hold utmost interests till date for all the tourists to Kerala. It is located about 70 miles from Palakkad. Varied of species are found in this sanctuary including that of mammals, reptiles, birds, fish and amphibians. Major attractions amongst the species are the snake species, the king Cobra which can be up to 18 feet. This is endangered because of considerable deforestation.
Silent valley national park- This sanctuary is one of the peaceful tropical evergreen forests in India. It is providing a safe home to many endangered species especially the lion-tailed Macaque and many other species of mammals, birds and insects due to the profusion of diverse flora and fauna.
Palakkad fort: This fort was made in 1766 A.D and stand as a silent witness to many wars that took place in the city. This fort is also called Tipu's fort as it was under the control of Tipu Sultan.
Nelliampathi This is one of the famous hill stations of Kerala. Spotted with teak trees and coffee and tea plantations, this is a place refrained from humidity which is really ever-present in Kerala. The presence of protected forests which is a home to birds and butterflies adds to its beauty.
Pothundi Dam It is the place to quietly observe the beauty of the scenic landscape. The noticing feature of this dam is that it is not made with cement. This dam is made of a mixture of jaggery and quick lime.
Dhoni water falls: This waterfall is situated near a green forest. Its shallow waters make it perfect place for visitors to stay away from the heat of summers for a while. There is also a temple of Lord Shiva with its wonderful architectural work.
