taketwo had a fan-tastic time at The Fan Museum in Greenwich on 23rd July 2010. The Fan Museum is the only museum in the world that is devoted entirely to the aspect of fans and fan making. The Fan Museum is home to a collection of over 3,500 different kinds of antique fans from around the world dating from the 11th century to the present day. Its collection of fans, of which some are on loan are displayed in their changing themed exhibitions, in which fans are presented in their historical, sociological and economic contexts.

Visitors can enjoy the designs of the unique items, which have served many purposes over the centuries including; ceremonial tools, fashionable accessories, status symbols and commemorative presents. When the museum opened in 1991 it received a distinction of awards from both the National Art Collections Fund and the English Tourist Board for outstanding contribution to the Arts and to tourism.'

The museum possesses the world's finest single collection of fans, fan leaves and related material including extremely rare and unique pieces, which are displayed in new exhibitions that can be viewed at The Fan Museum every four months. The permanent collection is particularly strong in 18th and 19th Century European fans. One display that is incredibly impressive is the Helene Alexander Collection, which is only one of many collections that have been generously received since the museums incipience. Recently, the Sicket Fan, which was painted in 1889 by the British artist, Walter Richard Scott (1860 1942) was acquired thanks to a very generous grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
