subject: How Science Influences the Collective Mindset [print this page] Scientists don't really mind wild outrageous theories so much as they detest the lack of pristine methodology to arrive at them. After all, quantum physics is wildly outrageous. What seems to irk scientists the most is when we talk about something like "quantum healing" for example, without providing any hard-core principles of quantum physics in our discussion.
Human Cognitive ability arose unevenly throughout the ancient world and there are individuals in every culture today that are more like prehistoric man than the average 21st Century Jack and Jill. Collective human intelligence rises and falls. The great intellectual advances of the Ancient Greeks and Romans fell into obscurity throughout much of the middle ages.
Up until the Renaissance, everyday life for western man was steeped in superstition, believing that either God or the Devil was responsible for occurrences in the natural world. There was no germ theory of disease, and people generally thought that sickness was an "influence of spirits."
The effect of Newtonian mechanical physics radically changed the way people think. Suddenly, after years of magical thinking and believing that life was out of their control, the western world began to develop in their collective cognitive capacity a strong sense of "cause and effect."
This idea that "natural forces act upon other natural forces" created an explosion in science which led eventually to the industrial revolution. An important point is that most people did not study Newtonian physics. The new ideas of only a select few inventors were developed into scientific concepts and then into new sellable forms of technology embraced by the masses.
People didn't have to study physics or understand the principles of mechanical physics to see that they worked. Wherever they ended up - on the factory production line or working on the engine of a car, or putting clothes through their wringer washing machines - was enough evidence that these principles of Newtonian physics worked. The evolution of our collective cognitive capacity is often brought about by a few forerunners whose new paradigms give way to new neural pathways in the human brain.
The new scientific world-view allowed western man to lift himself out of the superstitious gloom of the middle ages, and forge new opportunities. This created in turn a huge emphasis on the benefits of left-brain thinking and at the same time, it cast dispersion on the right-brain naturalism of the past. During the Middle Ages, it was unusual for most people to travel outside of their village even once in a lifetime. Things went a certain way and they were always that way. Children followed in the footsteps of their parents learning the same trades and occupations and not much change happened.
Suddenly, the new scientific world view gave people hope that if they made an effort (a cause) it would have a result (an effect). Even today we don't see the disaster that was germinating. Because of this momentous leap western man became exceedingly rational in his way of viewing the world. Climbing into his left cortical hemisphere, he cut himself off from natural rhythms and left behind the right-brain 'feminine mind' as worthless.
Women as well as men, believing so completely in the value of outer world success and achievement, have seriously lost touch with the essential femininity that sustains nature and gives our life a deeper value - in the feeling of connectedness, with each other, with nature and to God. We went beyond all of Mother Nature's imposed limits; putting lights on at night and forgetting about the stars and the moon.
We have machines processing our food and stripping it of nutrition. We no longer carry the financial burdens for family members anymore. We have day care centers raising our children and nursing homes tending to our elderly and welfare worrying about our disabled and mentally ill. We have a 60% divorce rate and no longer share in family rituals like the evening meal. Most Christians are that in name only and don't really believe in God. It doesn't take a genius to realize that what is missing here is honor for the feminine, yin side of life. All of these issues revolve around the abandonment of right brain thinking.
Richard Louv coined the term "Nature Deficit Disorder" to describe the sad disconnection from nature that has grown to be epidemic today. The effect that technology has had on this planet is astounding. Population grows exponentially and so does its trash and pollution. It is looking now like humans will destroy their home planet many scientists are saying now that it is just a matter of time.
After Isaac Newton, the next mega scientific event to earn a new groove in the human mind was Einstein's relativity. No one understood it, but it became the new "master meme,". In a sense, this new theory of relativity created a new neural pathway that translated as "I am energy" as in the new and exciting equation that stated "energy equals the speed of light squared; E=MC2." And it created another master meme that translated as, "all things are now going to be relative' to the way I see them."
People don't have to understand Einstein's relativity to begin living its new mind-set. The correlation between new theories of modern physics and the change in human perspective happens in a synchronistic way. People interpret ideas at whatever level they are capable of understanding.
But this sexy new "relativity" took hold in areas of modern psychology and formed the basis for early New Age thinking, creating tenets like "your mind can heal your body." Suddenly people were seduced away from their Newtonian fatal universe. In turn, they didn't need to feel so fated to science and medicines, People started experimenting with "perspective" and learned to "thinkthemselves healthy."
Einstein's relativity allowed us all to "think and grow rich" which evolved scores of "Law of Attraction" gurus. New religions sprouted up based on these ideas like the Church of Religious Science, Science of Mind, and Scientology. Our personal mindset formed the core of these religions. The new religions that sprung up touted the new truth that "I am energy = I am light" which in turn has created a new flexibility of mind. It actually softened hard-core western attitudes about premarital sex, homosexuality, and the role of women in society. It unlocked the "status quo" long enough to let hoards of suppressed members of society escape from their social prisons.
But not without some pretty serious consequences to traditional family life.
There was no E=MC2 atomic explosion happening inside our human brain cells. The physics of Einstein gave us the concepts - the master memes -to forge new neural pathways for flexible thinking. Most people still don't know what E=MC2 actually means. But this theory went viral and permanently changed the collective mindset. This opened opportunities up for the handicapped and militant senior groups that never could have happened without Einstein.
There is a new science of Quantum Mechanics still fresh on the horizon even though it has been around for many decades. Once again, scientific discovery is having a huge effect on collective thinking. It has single-handedly created a whole new "quantum" philosophy and quasi-religion called the Law of Attraction.
The movie What The Bleep Do We Know, down the rabbit hole carefully explained to average dummies how the quantum universe works. The birthing new "master meme" of quantum physics allows each one of us the creative power to manifest our dreams.
Quantum mechanics takes a very holistic approach to the physical world by stating that everything in the universe, including the human mind and its thoughts, are in contact with each other irrespective of distance. Relativity theory even supports the notion that particles can enter directly into contact by any interaction. This is the "secret" that was exposed in the block buster film The Secret.
In Quantum Theory, all possibilities exist as a wave form until something happens that collapses the wave form into a specific particle. Physics author Thomas G. Schumann states, "Quantum physics has many properties which are intuitively puzzling. Events cannot be predicted in a precise way, even in principle, as they can be in classical physics. Only probabilities can be predicted and these probabilities are calculated in a peculiar way involving complex amplitudes [wave forms]; these are summed and the square of the magnitude of the sum then gives the probability of the event occurring."
The "power of positive thinking" crowd, already making a huge living on Amway and Tupperware, now went wild with the quantum possibilities of wealth and immortality.
Schumann goes on to comment that, "It has been more than eighty years since the development of the quantum theory, which has been amazingly successful in predicting physical phenomena, yet a simple and intuitive interpretation which resolves these problems has yet to be discovered." He believes that adrastic revolution in our concept of reality is necessary in order to grasp the big picture of these very little things we call "quanta."
We can discuss with our pets how the cell phone uses microwaves, or show them where to plug in the cable to watch TV, but pets lack the brain capacity to follow a complex line of logical deduction. Human cognitive capacity is a major leap above that of our mammalian ancestry. Likewise, there is a new "quantum mentality" brewing. It won't be embraced by all humanity. "Many have been called but only a select few will be chosen" to evolve into the new quantum holy land.
The absurd nature of Quantum mechanics should be telling us that something suspicious is going on. It should be putting us on notice that a quantum leap in understanding - in our perspective of reality - is itching to find its niche in human consciousness. It's not that quantum wave forms are collapsing inside our brain cells; the new science is providing humans with a new paradigm of reality that includes unseen dimensions, tunnels for time travel and perhaps some entangled dead cats.
Law of Attraction gurus have seized the day by presenting the collective souls of humanity with a new quantum mindset. Master memes for quantum theory now form a new neural pathway in human cognitive capacity. It brings with it a new way of looking at scientific reality as directly parallel to the human psychology.
The master memes of quantum consciousness connects to everything and everyone while living in this vast field of all possibilities. This paradigm is sprouting a new religion of hedonism and an everyday lifestyle that easily accomodates obesity.
The really good news is that humans can now tap into this vast field of all possibilities and thereby manifest whatever we can envision. By applying this quantum-mind technology to our imagination, we can make all our dreams come true.
The key magic ingredient that law of attraction gurus bring to the table that scientists are barred from is the use of our imagination beyond just the germination of scientific concepts. By directing our imagination to craft a holographic experience of what we desire, we seed our future with what we want.
Imagination has always been the road to new technology but now, in the new quantum reality, imagination is about the only tool you need. According to the law of attraction, our imagination has infinite access to this field of infinite possibility. LOA gurus like Bob Proctor, Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer explain to us that we have to really believe that we already have what we want. This cleans up the pus of our dripping wounds of low self esteem and unworthiness - the two mortal enemies of manifestation.
This is the right brain playground, and this new master meme allows us to set aside the left-brain "skeptic mind." (This means scientists can't go there). LOA impells us to rid our minds of all the past conditioning that limits how we see ourselves. We have to spend time imagining the thing we want as having already happened to us. We must employ all of our senses in this exercise. We should taste it, see its detail, smell it, and feel it in our hands or against our body. Or, if it is a soul-mate we seek then we should imagine spending time together with that soul mate as if we have already met the person.
We should act like we really mean it. Another good thing to do is make room in our lives for this person or thing clear a space in our present to allow it the space to enter into our lives. And this means eliminating anything that is just taking up space in life that has outworn its usefulness including things, people, jobs and habits.
Admit it now - this all sounds as though someone is smoking crack! But using some retrospect to view how mankind developed the cognitive faculties that have brought us to this current level of mastery over nature, we can at least conceive that the development of a brand new mindset could create a brand new revelation about the workings of Mother Nature.
Mastery over the human ego will replace our current obsession with mastery over Mother Nature. The human ego has done some pretty serious damage to the earth. Those who use this new mental technology, called the law of attraction, are probably building a bridge in the brain that will create a new genetic and memetic reality for coming generations.
Neuroscience uses the term neuroplasticity to describe a quality of the human brain that is amazingly adaptable and capable of training and retraining itself to suit the outer world's demands on us. Through the imagination and the ego-driven power of intention, we can consciously create a new brain system that will respond to a new dimension of life far more powerful than the ego-based cognitive mind we have been exploiting since the Neolithic revolution.
It won't take many generations; we can start evolving immediately - without needing to use anything but our own thoughts and our all powerful intentions. This is pretty incredible stuff. A few front-runners like Jesus and Buddha seem to have developed higher states of consciousness and have left behind their teachings for us to decipher.
The soul is a mostly-dormant organ for 21st Century Homo Sapiens. Most of us were not born with the level of refinement needed to apprehend a higher level of mind. And the ego-driven agenda that consumes most of our waking state of consciousness tends to prevent a wholesale jump to the next rung of evolutionary development where, according to spiritual teachers of many religious faiths and philosophies, the soul gainsascendancyover the ego.
Humans are mostly entrenched in their memetic junkyard of a mind. With no sense of how to transform it into a powerful tool for manifestation, it remains a chase-your-tail endless loop of thought processes that go nowhere.
Our ego-mind will not stay fixed in the present moment even for a second. It has to dart forward into time and worry, and then flash back to the past and regret. Then our ego invents for itself imaginary episodes where we get to be "star." Fantasy allows the wounded ego to heal.
Almost all of our thoughts each day are identical to the ones we had yesterday and the day before and will be identical to the ones we will have tomorrow. This is an enormous waste of mind-energy that could be better used creating a future out of archetypes from an unbounded field of all possibilities. Go quantum!
